Transport for schools

In July 2004 Taylors Coach Travel became the first operator in Somerset to trial the yellow school bus scheme. The initial objective was to test the buses capability of running in and around South Somerset and to bring a new, modern approach to School transport.

The first vehicle acquired by us had 60 forward facing seats in a three- plus-two layout across the coach.  All seats were fitted with three-point adjustable belts, which can fit adults and children of all ages. The outside of the coach was painted in a highly visible bright yellow with SCHOOL BUS marked clearly on all sides.

One of the most significant features of the bus was the installation of a CCTV system, to ensure that the children’s welfare is monitored.

The trial was a success and children were easily able to distinguish the bus, with the journey to school becoming a more of an integral part of the school day and parents felt encouraged to use the transport rather than taking the kids to school in the car.

Taylors invested in similar high-capacity vehicles to cope with the subsequent demand and now, in 2009 has a fleet of 12 dedicated vehicles with seat belts – plus its fleet of coaches for longer runs or school trips to far-flung parts of the UK or even into Europe.

Primarily, the yellow buses are used to transport pupils to school. However, they can be also hired at any time of the day for other purposes, the size and design making them an ideal choice for day trips. For example, two average sized classes and staff members can be comfortably seated on one vehicle at the same time.

Preferential rates are given to schools for trips utilizing these vehicles and, due to the current economic climate, Taylors is happy to provide a quote which represents maximum value for money.

At Taylors we feel the safe transport of children is paramount and the coaches we have purchased reflect this.  We are committed to providing well maintained and well presented modern school vehicles and pride ourselves on being the only coach company in South Somerset to provide a service of such high standard.

All our vehicles are fitted with seat belts throughout and the yellow buses are built to comply with the latest - and future - safety specifications and nvironmental legislation. In the unlikely event of an accident, it is reassuring to know that the children are seated above the ‘crash zone’ and of course, with our buses having the seating capacity of between 60 - 70 seats, it creates a reduction in traffic at peak times in and out of the schools.  For added peace of mind all our drivers have had an enhanced CRB clearance and are highly experienced.
