Taylors coaches are a familiar sight on the roads around Somerset and beyond. Established in the 1960s, the company initially operated from Townsend Garage in Tintinhull - just off the A303, before later moving to new premises in Yeovil.
Over the years Taylors has been involved with many different aspects within the public transport sector, such as: contract work, private hire, service provision, engineering and school transport, as well as operating its own excursion and holiday agency.
Since 2000 the company have returned to its core values and now concentrates on further development and improvement in its two main fields of activity: coach hire and school transport. Taylors’ mission statement is to maintain a quality service at affordable prices.
Carefully planned routes, following realistic timetables and smart uniformed professional drivers complete the package, to ensure passengers get to their destination safely, comfortably and on time.
Working with Somerset and Dorset County Councils, Taylors has been working hard to raise the standards of school transport, with a special emphasis on children’s’ wellbeing and safety. All its modern purpose-built vehicles have three point seat belts and CCTV systems fitted, so that pupils are transported safely and their welfare is monitored whilst while in transit.
Most of vehicles are large capacity coaches seating up to 68 pupils, thereby reducing the number of vehicles on the road and helping to reduce the compny’s carbon footprint.
“We’re always surprised by the places people need to travel and it is very rewarding working with our clients and meeting their expectations’, said company director Tamzin Elliott. “In the past we’ve taken company executives and overseas visitors to factories, production plants, trade shows and exhibitions; sporting teams and competitors to competitions and events; plus transported many private groups to weddings, receptions, parties, shows and theatres. We’ve even taken celebrities to the BBC!”
As well as all this, Taylors works with supervisors and wardens to provide excursion programmes for housing schemes, plus voluntary organisations, such as the WI, gardening clubs and retirement groups, to venues such as: Highgrove House, Tyntesfield and other notable venues. Trips around the South West region are also very popular, such as Dartmoor, Exmoor and coastal resorts. These usually include fish and chip suppers, cream teas - or both!
